Even though the De-Portland days are over (or perhaps they just hide the detainees well enough to avoid news coverage?), PDX remains a challenging port of entry for foreigners. PDX just doesn't have enough international flights, and the agents are bored out of their minds and take plenty of time with each traveler. I enter through PDX a dozen times or so each year, and in the foreigner's line, agents often take 5 minutes per person. Case in point, I recently was number 5 in line, behind a family of 4 from the UK; it took the agent 12 minutes to clear these folks. A family with 2 little kids on vacation. Insane! It's even worse when foreign students (Portland State has a lot of students from Middle Eastern countries) are ahead of you. Fortunately, the nightmare days of having the LH and NW flight arrive at the same time are over; it was an absolute disaster to arrive after the other plane just got in.

Similar stories for customs, I've never been selected for customs/agriculture anywhere else -- at PDX, three times.
