Not to give too many brilliant ideas away... but at the way this is going, I can quite imagine the toilet vendors pushing hotels to charge per flush, or the in-room iron being put on one of those mini-bar like magnetic pads and a charge is billed when it's removed to be used.

if you re-read the part of my post which you quoted you'll see it is against brand standard to do so, infact I do believe it's also against Hilton, Hyatt & Starwood standards too (Wyndham DOES allow these type of charges at some brands, or at least has in the past but I personally doubt much has changed)
