An evacuation is most likely on take off or landing, yet how many people kick off their shoes and rush to be in their PJs before takeoff - personally I would want my shoes on as a minimum if I am going to be evacuating a potentially burning fuselage into an area of land which has goodness knows what underfoot
I personally don't drop my shoes until after takeoff and put them on before landing, just due to the case you stated.
But don't many of the Aircraft Safety Cards mention not to wear shoes when the plane is evacuated by the slides?!
