I used to work at Rolls-Royce in Derby. Left about 12 years ago, quite a lot has changed since then, with a massive program of new buildings and facilities.

I had the pleasure of working on water ingestion, blade-off and bird ingestion tests on the Trent 800. I later went on to work in the marketing side.

The price of the engines back then was based on (amongst other things) the size of order, the strategic importance of the customer and the type of maintenance package taken. It was not unheard of for airlines to be paid to take engines. Profit was then made on the long term support and spares (hopefully).

Pricing is probably a bit different now given the apparent strength of the RR product line up.

I said to my wife that watching that program made we want to go back to working there. But then I remembered what they used to pay me
