Hurricane risk is not much different than anywhere else in all of the Caribbean and South/Southeast US. When we went to the Haciendas in late Sept 2006, we actually left a day early to avoid a hurricane/tropical storm which was about to pass through ATL and SC on our scheduled day of departure. (We had to fly into CUN instead of Merida since DL had no flights to Merida that day. We spent that first night at the Westin Cancun.)
I think of Sept as peak hurricane season, so it's a risk. But I don't let hurricanes drastically impact my travel planning.
The least likely Caribbean area to be affected by hurricanes would be Aruba.
Not sure about a hurricane, but I would have loved to sit on my back porch of the suit I had at San Jose and watch a nice thunderstorm.
