There are minimum requirements for *A membership and one is maintaining the minimum elite status benefits. The *G benefit says 1 extra bag or 20kg extra. There is no wording that allows NZ to apply an exception.
While this may not be a big deal for some, it is a slippery slope. If NZ can get out of some minimum benefits what is to stop them avoiding some others (eg lounge access, priority check in)? If NZ gets out of some benefits, how long do you think it will be until other *A airlines try to also get out of benefits (eg the US-based ones stop waiving baggage fees for elites other than their own)?
