In my experience, all three seats are almost always taken... so don't count on using d/f and having E vacant. I'm only 5'9" and sometimes can put my legs up on the slide intrusion, though what I usually do is bring a roll-aboard, which serves as a perfect 'ottoman' after takeoff... rivals BE old seating...
