Probably a pretty accurate comparison -- not sure about the 70s and 80s, but surely the 60s.. But people dressed up to fly and it was a big deal.
And I'm trying to figure out how prices then compared with now -- I found a listing on a www site indicating that a CLE-DCA roundtrip in the 1960s was $75. $75 in 1965 was the equivalent of about $500 in 2009.
Or, I seem to recall paying about $250 for a roundtrip charter from New Orleans to Amsterdam when I was in college -- 1970. About $1300 in 2009 and that was a fixed date charter. 250 people on a DC8.
