Convenience vs. Cost - what do you choose?
I'm going to Central America for Christmas this year. When I initally booked the trip I got a great airfare to New York, so decided to spend a few days there and then continue onto Central America. However I'm now going to spend that extra time in Central America.
To book my flights now from New York to Central America is around $340 USD, but it means I have to change from EWR to JFK both on the outbound and return and obviously all flights are now not connecting, which means if anything happens I'm out of pocket.
However, if (and it's a big if*) I can get a refund on my flight into EWR then to book my flights from Europe - Central America return is only around 200 euro more than booking two seperate tickets and it means I won't have to change airports in New York and also won't have long layovers in MEX which I'm looking at currently, plus if any flight is delayed and I miss the connection it's now the airlines problem and not mine.
So do you take cost or convenience into account?
* Flight booked with Expedia - can't bring up refund conditions and can't bring the flight up on ITA anymore to look at the rules.
