Until I started this Volunteer Cabin Crew training, I had very little idea how much was involved. Over the years, "Bealine" and his family have become very blase about the aircraft safety briefing and, whilst we look attentive when the crew are going about their business, we are thinking "Yeah, yeah! Heard it all before!"

I had no idea, either, how wonderful British Airways' Training Facilities at Cranebank (near Hatton Cross) are. I feel it is a real privilege to be there - I just wish it was under less trying circumstances.

What I would say, though, is that the simulator facilities are available to corporate clients for a training half-day called "Flight Safety Awareness" which takes business travellers through the emergency evacuation process and lets them have a go at operating the Emergency Exits, assisting the crew and using the escape slides.

From a business traveller's perspective, the course will probably be an eye-opener, a bit of fun (with a serious message) and may just help them to stay calm and focussed in a real situation (heaven forbid!)
