The DL Terminal (T5) is fairly standard. There are a few cafes: El Cholo Mexican grill, California Pizza Kitchen, etc. but nothing extraordinary and a 7 hour layover will be long. Since you mentioned your relatives are not seasoned travellers, leaving the airport in likely not a good option, but I would recommend telling them to go to Encounter: the futuristic theme building in the middle of LAX. They can walk there and bring their carry-ons as everyone does, go up the elevator and have much nicer lunch /dining options. Even going up for a drink at the bar is worth it. Great runway views! It is quite a novelty and will pass the time. Tell them to do this BEFORE processing into T5 security. It will be a nice way to pass an hour or two...
