Thinking about making a stop here on the way or way back from Hiroshima. Is it easy to reach from a Japan Rail Line? I have a Japan Rail Pass and would like to reach Naoshima from a rail station on the route and/or via ferry from a station along the way. I understand the museums are closed on Mondays. I plan on staying overnight in Hiroshima or Kyoto.
You can use your JR pass to get to Uno, which is about an hour or so (and one to two trains) from the nearest shinkansen. From there you would need to take a ferry, and then a bus to see the art museums. Not exactly an easy day trip, but perhaps doable if you leave Hiroshima very, very early. If I were you I would stay at leat a night. We plan to stay two the next time we go.
