If there are seats available on an earlier flight, then it is given.
Amazed at how some make believe rules are made up ... as they go along!

Yes, you can most definitely SDC award tickets.
I never said that you could not SDC an award seat. I said "I do them all the time as well" the next post after mersk862 said he does them all the time on award tickets.
According to the to agent, to SDC on an award ticket, there has to be some type of award ticket available of the new flight. Any award seat, even if it is a high mileage seat. That means if the flight has red or high mileage seats, which virtually all do, you get to SDC your award seat even if yours was a low mileage award seat.
I do them all the time as well, but I was told recently that even if the award was a low (green) reward there has to be an award seat on the plane. It could be high (red) just as long as there is an award seat available. almost all flight will will have some type of award seat available on it, so you will be able to SDC .
I have seen flights close to departure that did not show red availability but did have a Y seat for sale. So according to the agent SDC would not have worked.Only in this rare case.
