You should be able to call the CSR and verify your itinerary. The latest AA timetable does not seem to allow this connection, so you should be able to change w/o penalty if AA had changed the flight times of your original award booking.

That was the problem I had with my SJC-HNL flights: the change in LAX arrival time made connection really tight, so they changed it for me automatically.
