These rumors are still very suspect - but the chance of Apple rolling out a CMDA model of the iPhone is slim to none.
The Canadian CDMA carriers in Canada, Telus, Virgin and Bell, offer the iPhone via HSPA. I have no idea what Verizon's network can handle in terms of that technology, and perhaps they were upgrading in stealth to prepare for an official announcement later this year, but there is no way that Apple will support a separate technical model of the iPhone for one US carrier. Apple is not that desperate and that's not how they do business.
So, either the rumor is false or Verizon will support the GSM iPhone on HSPA like Bell, etc. When I visit Canada, my iPhone now routinely switches its roaming partner from Rogers to Bell.
I checked verizonwireless.com for pricing - they are certainly not cheap and would be a step-up in cost from ATT for the same plan (not to mention losing rollover minutes). If you're not currently a Verizon customer, would moving to them from ATT really be that worthwhile?
