Verizon has helped Android quite a bit, but they are by no means the driving force behind the platform.
Didn't the Palm CEO said that they could have been bigger than the Droid if they had been on Verizon first, instead of Sprint?

My new rule is anything an analyst says about the iPhone is a lie. They make this crap up to get in the news.
I know, they all like to make this kind of announcements, but there was a rumor that Verizon was ready to denounce all interest in the iPhone, with the "Rule the Air" campaign, and that didn't happen either, but the complete opposite
I was just hoping that the two platforms would battle it out for years to come, thus making better phones each time. With the iPhone infiltrating enemy lines, I see it more difficult. As we all know, these phones, no matter how cool they are, without apps, they are nothing. And the iPhone has the most right now, and every single developer caters to that crowd.
Just Hulu released their new app, and the Android app, was missing, and they keep blocking it for us that can use flash on our phones
