A gentleman comes up to the gate, he had missed the cut off on an earlier flight to LAX and sent to the gate. He actually has credit card out and willing to pay any difference and/or fee. I'm thinking just wait to the GA reprices with change fee, he will flip. Instead, she takes pity on him because he asks politely and is willing to pay for any difference/fee and just hands him a BP and tells him to have a nice flight (he has no status). I say to the GA, wow you really were generous to that gentleman. She said it was all in his attitude.
+1.

I recently was scheduled on AA75 IAD-LAX, which canceled shortly before noon. The auto-rebooker put me on the next day's flight - I called and got switched to the 2:30 IAD-LAX so I could make my morning meeting in LA the next day. Phone agent wouldn't put me on the upgrade list, but did get me an exit-window seat. Admiral's Club agent (great folks at the IAD AC) put me on the upgrade list, but noted that there were two full F passengers already on waitlist for First. I thanked her, and told her how much I appreciated the help.

Got excellent service on-board, including recognition of status, from the cabin crew (they had obviously looked at the manifest ahead of time 'cause she mentioned it when she first came through the cabin)....

I doubt I'd have gotten anything if I'd been a blazing *hole.
