This was my original thought that I edited to "wrong" on my first reply.
Moondog, have you done this before and did it work out? If those two tickets are not on the same itinerary, how could MF know that he connects from CO? The issue I see is that he needs to reclaim the bags, go through customs and recheck the bags. I can already see MF check-in desk tearing off the CO baggage labels and replacing them... (and charging for excess)??
