in my experience they do serve same Y special meals in all cabins - the F crew on my recent SFO flight were embarrassed to serve carrots and boiled rice. I swapped to AVML on subsequent flight and got a biryani which has virtually no spice so tasted like veg and rice again (a slight improvement). I have now taken to not ordering a special meal and taking a chance with the standard menu (i dont eat fish either so its a risk!). If not i usually ask the helpful crew to see what they can create...sometimes with mixed results but at least the effort has been there!
