I’ve used AddLee loads (mostly through work but also personally a few times) and have always been impressed with them; some drivers take more pride in their cabs/themselves than others, but the variability is relatively low compared to most other cab companies. And the use of GPS means I’ve never been asked for directions (a real pet-peeve of mine!).

They’re just about competitive for journeys around central London, but not so good if you’re a little further out or need to go to the airports. The cabs are always on time (never had a late one in about 30 journeys or so), they store your previous destinations to more easily locate them the next time round and send you SMS messages when the cab is on its way to you and again once it’s arrived, along with the driver’s phone number. All things I’ve missed when I’ve had to use other companies.

I’ve had a similar experience to Raffles, with drivers complaining that booking using a credit card means they only get about 50% of the fare; I can’t remember how much of it he said he got if it was a cash fare. Since then I’ve always paid cash. As for tipping – never if it’s been booked through work, usually a pound or two if paying myself.
