Just back from a three night stay here and I was very disappointed with the poor service.
1. Arriving mid-afternoon, the Valet guy did not even welcome us and just asked for my last name. No directions to the check-in desk and just handed a valet ticket and luggage receipt and told to hand the receipt to the check-in agent.
2. Check-in agent did not welcome me as a Starwood Gold member (yes I know it's not much in terms of status, but they are meant to greet you) Did not receive the welcome Lei's or welcome drink. Was not even apologized for being forgotten.
3. Assigned a room in the Tower Wing (as booked) but assigned the 6th floor (out of a possible 20). When prompted I was given the usual there are no higher rooms available. Funnily enough when checking later on at the front desk there was. At this stage was too much hassle to move.
4. The rooms are okay, but feel empty or not enough furniture in them. The bathrooms have only had a mild renovation and the bath was all chipped, the shower-head falling apart. Ventilation only worked 1 out of the 3 days in the bathroom so the mirror would fog up when having a shower or shaving.
5. Went down to the restaurant (Beachhouse at Moana) to take advantage of the Father's Day 3 course special. It was advertised on a large poster board approx 40 x 20 inches near the restaurant. It was also shown on a small menu near the desk when you ask to be seated for dinner. As we were about to order the Father day special dinner, we were told "Sorry that sold out at 6pm, that's why I didn't give you the small menu which explained how it worked" I pushed and asked why it was still on display out the front on a large board and near the desk at the front of the restaurant and she just looked away and said "Not too sure about that, what would you like to order?" Was tempted to just leave but it was late, so we ate there. Food was good, waiter was hopeless and many other people frustrated by this.
6. Pool area - Small pool and only around 80 chairs around the pool, so for over 1000 guests, you have to be down there by 7:30 am to get a chair. Want a chair (not even a proper lounge) by the beach it's an extra $30/$40 per day. The 60 minute only holding policy for lounges is not enforced as I asked for two lounges that had been free for nearly 4 hours to be set-up for my use and I was given various excuses. I suspect someone had tipped the pool attendants to keep them vacant as they were the best chairs by the pool.
7. Breakfast - Great if you like waiting for food and plates and anything else they run out of. They are simply trying to serve too many people and not succeeding. Also be prepared for pigeons to eat from a plate right in front of you if you are not careful.
Want pool side drinks ? Well you may see a waiter once or twice a day?
The saddest part of the trip was the the housekeeping staff were the most friendly and I had a chat to two of them during my stay.
I saw various guests complaining to the Guest Services Manager during the course of my stay, and that pretty much says it all.
This hotel really only cares about the Japanese tourist dollar now!
Don't bother staying here, stay at the Outrigger Reef just up the road.
Disclaimer: The previous 8 nights were spent at the St Regis in Kauai and Four Seasons in Lanai so I was coming from a proper 5 star experience into a 3 1/2 star hotel experience.
