What's wrong with a third class degree?

I graduated from Imperial College, London in 1978 with a third class honours degree. At least one fellow graduate got a first class degree and is now, 30+ years later, earning GBP50k per annum with a local authority. I'm on virtually 10x his salary.
In my great experience, when recruiting candidates for expat positions, class of degree is almost irrelevant. Of far greater importance is what you've done with that degree since graduation - i.e. your professional experience, achievements, personality, etc.
