Hmmm....I checked Aug 31 from London to Birmingham and got GBP19 as the "special fare" advance purchase for first class, while advance fare coach was priced at GBP7. The special didn't seem like that much of a deal when compared to coach, and that was before applying rail pass discounts to the regular fare.
