I only have one lounge experience with kids, but it was at one of the Continental lounges in Newark. One of the lounges there has a family room, and one does not. I can't recall how to identify which is which except that the one WITH the family room is in the long hall that connects the three terminal arms, and the shopping area is across the hall.

The family room was plain, but perfectly comfortable and suitable. It had two couches, end tables with lamps, and a TV with DVD player. There was a child-size table and chairs, too. There were NOT toys inside, so you need to responsible for bringing your own activities and toys. The restrooms were right across the hall.

At the time we were there, I can't recall what the problem was, but the DVD player was not working, so we let our son watch some videos on our laptop, and we watched some TV ourselves.

We had about a 5 hour layover, so our son was able to take a much-needed nap on a blanket on the floor for a while, too.

I was warned that the family rooms can get busy at times, but in our case we were the only people using it the entire long time we spent there. Since myhusband and I were both there, one of us was able to take a little walk out in the main area of the lounge, grab some snacks and drinks and newspapers and bring them back into the family room so we could enjoy them. Hda we been traveling solo with the little one, we would have had to bring him in tow out there to get something to eat or drink, and carrying a small child + food or drink isn't the easiest.

The two negative things I recall about the family room were that it was really too warm in there and the door locked upon exit, so we had to either prop the door when we went to the restroom or one of us had to get up to let the other one in. I don't really understand the point in locking it. It's so basic that there's nothing to steal, and since it's a family room, I can't really imagine anyone trying to poach the space for something else except maybe a random person trying to catch a nap on one of the couches. If that's the case, then they just need to put a big sign on it saying "for travellers with children ONLY" and be persistent in removing people w/o kids from the room. (After all, if kids aren't allowed in the main area of the lounge, then the space where they ARE allowed ought to be maintained for their use and not usurped by others.) Not having the autolock on the door would made things a lot more convenient

Overall, the price for the day pass at the lounge (we're not CO elites) was well worth it. We were on a LONG overseas trip with a long layover, and using the family room for some downtime for him to nap away from the hustle and bustle of the terminal was key to the trip going smoothly for us and for our fellow passengers on the 12-hr flight to Israel that we took after leaving the lounge.

I will get a day pass at the lounge every time I travel with my kids and have a layover of more than a couple hours. Sanity, a peaceful connecting flight, and a well-timed Heinekin are well worth the price of admission.

My son was 15 months when we took this trip
