Paying $600 to upgrade either of those flights is crazy. And that's the main reason UDU's are pretty easy for elites these days. You can buy a lot of luxury for $1,200... UA's domestic F seats are not worth it. The flights to/from Hawaii from the west coast are the same distance as flying a transcon from LAX-IAD. Would you pay $1,200 for that round trip on a 2 class plane? I wouldn't.. if you were beginning your journey to Hawaii from the east coast the co-pay starts to become more worth considering, but certainly not starting at LAX.

I think it's a fair bet UA will be reducing its Hawaii co-pays at some point (they already did reduce them a bit from when co-pays were first announced..but IMO they need to come down more).

Sounds like you're on the same PNR. Easy way to know for sure.. did you get just one confirmation number or two?
