I've never tried to break the rule, but supporting evidene would be that even when AC members are getting waved through by flashing their cards, they always ask me what flight I'm on and appear to look it up and record my QantasClub card number.

IIUC (if I understand correctly) your Airpass card should have on it's face the AC logo (the circle with five stars in it) showing that you have AC access.
