Having just come back last week from a business trip to Malta where I stayed at the Westin I'm a bit surprised at how glowing some of these reports are.

I was 'upgraded' at check in as a SPG Gold to the SPG 7th floor. I'm not sure what if anything is so special about the 7th floor that it qualifies as an upgrade but I've seen a number of SPG properties that label a floor as the SPG floor to meet the upgrade requirements without actually offering an upgrade. No fruit, wine or even complimentary water was provided or offered. The room was just ok - nonsmoking and two queens although I'd asked for a single king, but who cares. The balcony view overlooking the pool and sea is VERY exposed with no privacy barriers whatsoever. Interestingly the middle of the week I came back to my room to find an email, and a letter slipped under my door, reminding me not to hang clothes or towels from my balcony railing. I was later told everybody in the hotel got the same notice. I never had done any such thing and felt a bit insulted at first.

Food was so so and I did better walking out into St. Julians for dinner. Very touristy area with lots of young folks wanting to party.

I was most dissapointed with an utter lack of service in the lobby bar. Three evenings I hung out there with my computer for free internet and the waiters couldn't seem to be bothered to come ask folks what they wanted. I was not demanding or impolite and I did tip but they still never seemed to care enough to come ask what I, or others, wanted and this was during not so busy times.

Lots and lots of kids - not a great place for a couple looking for a romantic getaway. Casino was closed for rennovation and really does detract a bit from the view in the evenings with its glaring neon sign.

I'd stay here again but most likely will try an alternate venue next time.
