How long are you expecting to be on the ground in Zurich -- i.e., from scheduled arrival to scheduled departure the next day? If it's less than 24 hours, at WAW they should be able to check your bags all the way through; or, if they can't, they should still give you the TATL allowance.

Assuming of course that WAW-ZRH and ZRH-America are on the same ticket.
