In any event, this tale doesn't make sense. If the early connection was a valid one (based on Minimum Connecting Time) then you should have booked it. If you missed it, BA would have been obliged to put you on the later flight anyway (so nothing lost from your current position) and if you were on time then you'd have been on the other flight.
