Well, in the end, it was not possible to try CX as I have a superior flying on the SQ flight and thought it would be disrespectful to fly apart. So, I will try SQ 2 HKG-SFO on a purchased F ticket which I bought today. I do appreciate all your advice, though. I hope to try CX sometime as well.

At least the food is good - I can suffer a little on the seat for better food, sounds like a fair trade!
