Interesting suggestion, since I'm on the East Coast. The A330 certainly makes me happier, but the extra time and cost of the interisland flights deter me. Our plan is six nights exclusively on the Big Island, so two flights total is more attractive than a third flight (and the extra time) and several hundred dollars on top of the miles needed.
But I hear you on the old Singapore ETOPS - no AVOD, no personal air, no edible food. I thought the counter might be eat before the flight and crash out on the leg to LAX in F, which seems to be at least adequate space. Then the trip back to JFK would be BE.
