Tripit offers many useful features unrelated to dynamic flight status updates. Personally, I love their itinerary crunching engine, which turns rental car, flight, and hotel email confirmations into an ical feed that most calendar systems can subscribe to.
I'd advise tripit to perhaps consider a partnership with a flight status service, but their primary goal should be ongoing development of their core competency. For example, tie-in with corporate travel providers to give Fortune 500 companies access to the tripit, or integrate with WebEx, that sort of thing.
