My wife and I did this exact thing this summer. Took AA to Europe and picked up Turkish for the FCO-IST round trip. Fares were very good and the service was suprisingly good and fleet modern. Turkish also flies to IST from ORD and JFK (A340s). Not sure how they are on transatlantic or if you'll be able to get the upgrade (the flight is an AA Code share).

This will be my first trip to Turkey. I'm very interested in art history--especially Byzantine--and religious history. I'm travelling solo however with a tour. I'd love and advice or feedback. The tour seems to cover all the major important sites and at least one trip to the market. Any tips?
