How would AA benefit from taking away Lifetime Platinum?
There has been a lot of nervousness on this board the last few weeks since AA started adding new fees and reducing standby flexibility, etc. Among future moves mentioned by some FTers has been the possibility of doing away with the unpublished Lifetime Platinum designation.
I am already in that category and my wife is getting close.
I've been trying to figure out why AA would want to do away with it. It is the ultimate concept to keep customers loyal, as AA is always the first place we look before we buy tickets. It makes things a little tougher for PLT customers who have more people (those who may not fly 50,000 miles that year) to contend with for upgrades, but that doesn't directly affect AA, or does it?
I thought I would toss this out to see if others have different perspectives on the pros and cons of AA continuing the classification. (I'm assuming AA would grandfather existing Lifetime Platinums -- I guess it's "required," unless the whole program is changed. I'm just having a hard time determining the benefit to AA if they withdraw the designation.)
