UPS Store?
I would suggest sending UPS Ground. If it's ~1 hour by air, it should be next business day delivery with UPS Ground. Their rates aren't too bad, and they will size a box specifically for your cakes. I wouldn't check it as a suitcase because the "This end up" would likely be ignored.
