The government, these days, seems to take little seriously when it interferes with what a bureaucrat wants to do. Unfortunately, Chicago style politics seems to be the rule of the day, with science taking a back seat. Pre-9/11, some brave souls came up with an airport screening scheme using backscattered neutrons for detecting ceramic/plastic devices, and some even proposed using these to inspect people. Fortunately, this concept (at least on people) died an infant death.
Unfortunately, my congressman is not running for re-election, and the new kids on the block are not talking against anything "security." I think the TSA needs to continue digging its hole, and eventually the sides will collapse and bury them, but much harm will be done before then.
In the '60s we protested in the streets. Perhaps we can get a movement to stand outside the moat and pass out fake film badges and a pamplet? Before we're dragged off to the ABQ jail?
