Never tried the windshield mounts, just threw them out. I do recall thinking didn't like the additional wire (charger) hanging down from windshield.

Anyway, it appears both are popular options. Amazon lists the beanbag type dash mounts as top 1-10 with 1 or 2 windshield levers closely behind.
My Magellan has a mount similar to what cordelli mentioned. Flip the little tab and the suction cup releases it's grip on the windshield.
