Did u use the AA website? Please, any help would be appreciated. I'm in need of a MR and I'm tired of going from DCA-SJC. I get good mileage, but I would love to do a crazy run and spend $500 to get 10,000 miles (or something close to that).

Would love to hear how you figured that out. Because despite the "trick it, negotiate it" thread nothings helped me.
Are you looking for WAS-PTY or LAX-PTY? The OP's itinerary is a LAX-PTY O&D; it has nothing to do with WAS other than using WAS as a convenient (mileage maximizing) connecting point on the overall LAX-PTY trip.

OP probably didn't help matters with the confusing thread title. Better to keep it simple and just list the O&D in the title to prevent confusion between strategy (the big picture of a good LAX-PTY fare) and tactics (detail on specific routings to squeeze the most miles out of the fare).

Central/Northern South America have semi regular fare wars so keep an eye out and be prepared to position to OA hubs to take advantage of the fares when they popped up. A couple years ago there was an AA slamfest that saw $138+ fares to PTY from all DL hubs (including mileage maximizing SLC).

WAS-Central America doesn't attract as much "AAttention" since the hub carrier that dominates pricing in WAS is extremely weak when it comes to Central/South America network. UA is unlikely to do anything that would make AA want to slam it in a WAS-LatAm market...
