Hi BA5E I'm not a fan of the QF 388 F cabin, largely on account of it being designed for optimising the experience of solo travellers. That said, whether you choose the 388 or the 744, I'd go QF all the way on that route: the food and wine is miles better. BA isn't at its finest IMO and the 777 layout (assuming you do SIN-SYD) in F sucks. Be interested in your impressions in the event that you do mix carriers - my tip, if you must fly BA, do them on the LHR-SIN sector and QF on the SIN-SYD/MEL.
Thanks for advice, what we intend to do is the 380 out LHR-SYD which goes via SIN, and then on the way back do the 744 BA10 via BKK. We do not like the 777 so will avoid that like the plague anyway. We will not be going until Feb, so perhaps by that time returning in March the 744 may have the new F and that I will be interested to see. You say the wine and food is much better on the 380, looking at their wine list it is very extensive, albeit though we do tend to stick to shampoo, but do love OZ wine so may make an exception on the outward journey. Yes will report back when we get to SYD.
