For the J short-haul, I would avoid eating at all. CX J food is a disaster on CX both short and long-hauls. It's slop, through and through. I suppose the Chinese options are slightly better, but generally the formula for both Chinese and western mains in J class is throw some meat and random vegetables together (meat and veggies mixed in the Chinese dish, separated in the western ones), add some vague heavy sauce, lob in a portion of rice or potatoes, and then nuke the hell out of all of it.
QRC3288 is right about food in F and J.

Regarding quality of food in J, CX probably thinks they serve better food than their competitors, therefore lacking the need to improve.
