We have one in each of our clunkers and it's small enough to pack when on vacation. We took one to Seattle over Christmas and as soon as we got into our rental car, all set up!
How exactly is that safer? Assuming that you put the mount on your dashboard, you are still blocking just as much of your view of the road. With that device you also have the possibility of it simply sliding around or even off the dash. If it slides, you are going to reach for it. Seems less safe to me.
