Just tell them they have two choices:
They refund the charge and keep you as a customer.

You pay the bill except from the charge and they lose you as a customer.
Either way they're not collecting their fee.
Except option 2 leads to a charge off , negative reporting on CRAs, drop in FICO and action to claim the money, plus possibilty of adverse action from other credit providers if they see the charge off ; the charges are valid charges and the customer is liable to pay them
