That's often the easiest way and it's what I recommend.
Note however, that after travel has commenced, any oneworld carrier should be able to make changes to your itinerary.
And also it is possible that if the ticket needs to be re-issued the new carrier will issue on their stock which can lead to higher taxes & fees.
