Apparently, the Insurance Co's have been billing FDs for excessive damage. The FD damaged the screen door and some soffits and they took time to move items to ensure that nothing broke. Our insurance arranged everything which was a big help and made the process easier and less stressful.
Many FD's also bill the homeowners $10,000+ for on-site services, so perhaps it's reasonable to hold them accountable for the mess they make.
Personally, I'd rather have a big hole in the roof than roast potatoes in the coals afterwards.
