Sorry, I have to disagree. You have a pilot and a co-pilot. It takes all of 15-30 seconds to make a short announcement to inform your paying passengers. I find this unacceptable with any airline. Heck, the FA's knew what was happening and if the pilots were really too busy, then a FA could have easily made a quick announcement.
Sure, they could have, and maybe should have...But there is a good chance that it would have sounded something like:
"Ladies and Gentlemen, we're having some issues with one of our passengers, we don't really have any information on what this means regarding our flight at this point."

As far as I'm concerned, if something important needs to be said, the crew will relay it. If it's not important/relevant, I'm not upset if they don't "fill the space" with words.

For the OP to say "We were ignored" seems a bit strong, no? I'm relatively convinced that EVERYTHING that the pilots were doing during those 20 minutes was aimed at getting the passengers to their destination. That's pretty much the opposite of ignoring, as far as I'm concerned...
