My experience is also limited in this regard, because I think I've become so conditioned to gate checking anything with wheels that I just plop my rollaway on the tarmac before climbing up the stairs. That said, I have a 18" rollaway briefcase that I occasionally put underneath the seat if I have a tight connection. US recently made me check it flying LGA-BGR (CRJ)
. No one has ever bothered me with it on UA, but again, my data points are in the single digits in that regard.
You can actually put a 22" underneath the seat on a CRJ? I'm going to try it next time myself.
