It's not just BA or LH.
If you're used to flying on any of the Gulf airlines or with some of the Asian carriers, it becomes really painful, as per the points in the list above.
Only last week I was on a long haul flight with the Chinese mainland carrier Hainan Airlines. Whilst I was a bit underwhelmed by their hard product (still far better than AFKL) and catering (wich was on par with AFKL, but which imho did not really amount to a 4* Skytrax airline), I was absolutely overwhelmed by the best efforts, team spririt, customer focus and overall professionalism displayed by both the all-Chinese cabin crew and their check-in colleagues at the airport.
The crew wasn't perfect, but I could tell they were really trying to make m flight as pleasant as possible, and to give that little extra care and attention.
And I could tell the airline had been doing a great job hiring/training/motivating them, with a focus on the passenger as a customer and as the main reason and purpose for the airline to be in business.
It was so un-like Air France KLM. It was just striking... (in a good way, I mean).
So yeah, as others have pointed out, something is definitely very wrong at Air France KLM.
Not moving forward is going backwards, and in the case of AFKL there even was a deliberate choice by the management to move the airline backwards.
And it's not just the new AFKL Flying Blue FFP, after the 1 April 2009 changes.
Those incompetent airline egos would better not count on too many former members returning 'home' again, after Air France KLM re-enhance their Flying Blue program (as they will do) when the market picks up again.
They might be in for a bad surprise, finding out that rebuilding an airline is a lot harder than just deconstructing it!!
