Given that departures from PDX (and SEA as well) start early in the morning and continue until past midnight, these kind of club hours fit. You don't find flights leaving DTW and MSP after midnight, IIRC.
Yes, I realize that, but some flights at MSP and DTW, for instance, are scheduled to leave over an hour after the lounges close. Also, in the past, the MSP and DTW clubs used to sometimes stay open later than posted when there were bad delays, but I haven't seen this happen recently. The SFO club also seems to (still) close significantly before the last red-eye leaves. (IIRC, the AS lounge was a partial solution, albeit somewhat farther from the gates.)
