Will be interesting to see how the next year pans out. Simultaneously the Gautrain and various high end bus services (all built at a cost of many billions) will be rolling out. The commuters have been very supportive of these initiatives. (And why wouldn't they be given the road safety record of the taxis?) So far the taxi thugs have rioted, blockaded and killed - but with little apparent effect. Are we seeing the beginning of a terrible turf war or the end of their power? Will our weak government capitulate and write off the taxpayers billions to mollify the criminals or stand firm and finallly deliver a service of great value to its citizens? I'd like to believe the latter but so many cowardly compromises are being made these days...
