More important than local code enforcement is the preventive maintenance schedule. This is usually handled by the elevator service company under contract to do periodic inspections and repair. They may even be required by the code enforcement people.

If these are being done on schedule, it says more about safety than if the local elevator inspector at city hall has happened to look over and sign off on the paperwork.
